WHITTIER, CA – Marinello Schools of Beauty, the leading chain of beauty schools on the West Coast, had an instructor win an Ultimate Teacher Award and two students win 2nd and 3rd places in the SUPERSTYLE competition at SUPERSUNDAY 2010. The event, sponsored by Supercuts, brings students and teachers together for a fun-filled, educational, and exciting day.

Hairstyles and trends are greatly influenced by music and pop culture, so it was fitting that this year’s “So You Think You Can STYLE” SUPERSTYLE competition challenged the student contestants to create an impersonation of their favorite music artist. The students were given 30 minutes to cut and 30 minutes to style their model’s hair.

Marinello’s student, Mayra Pulido from the Moreno Valley campus earned 2nd place with her “Lady Gaga” creation. “I was so nervous but when I got up there, I just imagined that I was working on a guest at school.” Jarrod Dumas from the El Cajon campus won 3rd place with “Vanilla Ice”. According to Marinello director Suzanne Pacheco, “Jarrod and his model Giacomo Vernice put us on the map! Giacomo was better than the original Vanilla Ice.” Each student received a cash prize and professional hair tools.

Vicky Delgado, who’s been teaching with Marinello for over 28 years, was honored this year with an Ultimate Teacher Award. It was the culmination of Supercut’s annual search for cosmetology instructors that have impacted and made a real difference in the lives of their former students. Vicky was happy to win the award but is happier that she is able to teach. “Students are our investment and every time a student graduates, our capital grows.” The nomination came from a former student who wrote, “Mrs. Delgado is a very special person. Due to her caring personality and genuine concern for me and others, I am who I am today.”

This was not the first year that a Marinello Schools of Beauty instructor took home an Ultimate Teacher Award. This is a testament to the bond that forms between students and teachers at Marinello. The number of top rankings in past SUPERSUNDAY student competitions reveals the quality of instruction students receive. Congratulations to Mayra Pulido, Jarrod Dumas, and Vickie Delgado for their hard work and for representing the Marinello Schools of Beauty high standard of education.
